Homemade Harvest Candy Corn and Candy Turkeys

What's better than homemade candy corn and candy pumpkins?

Well, we think it's homemade harvest candy corn with a chocolate flavored stripe, and candy turkeys.

After eating some of the candy corn, that we bought in the after Halloween sales ,to make turkey cookies with, we decided that we really do prefer the homemade variety. So we returned to our favorite recipe at Homemade Dessert Recipes (click here, to see it).

This time, after dividing the dough into thirds (with a spoonful of the white set aside for the turkey beards), we added 1 tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa powder to one of the thirds, to make a chocolate bit, to use in the candy corn and the turkeys.

Then, the candy corn were made as before.

The turkeys were made, with two balls of the chocolate dough - one slightly larger than the other, together with a bit of white and brown for the eyes, orange for the beak, and red for the beards. The red dough, was from the spoonful of white, I separated at the beginning. I added a few drops of red food coloring, and two drops of cherry extract to it, just for variety.

The dough becomes stiff as it cools, but it can be softened, by running it in the microwave for 5 - 10 seconds, which makes it soft, and easy to mold. I suppose it's a little like working with fondant - we just happen to prefer working in candy corn.

It's great to be a homeschooler.
