Peanut Butter Chocolate Surprise Cookies

The girls wanted to make some chocolate dipped peanut butter cookies, like some they had seen in the Fall edition of Tea Time magazine (and yes, this was another item for our Grandmother's Tea). I talked them into tweaking them a bit, to make, what I called, inside out peanut butter cup cookies, instead.

They mixed up our favorite peanut butter cookie recipe - one cup of sugar, one cup of peanut butter, and one egg. Then they rolled the dough into one inch balls. Some were made smaller, because they like tiny food at their tea parties.

They pressed a dent into the middle of the each dough ball, and added two or three chocolate chips. Then, they rolled the dough back into a ball, hiding the chocolate in the middle.

After, the cookies had baked for about ten minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit, they looked like ordinary little peanut butter cookies. But, of course, they had lovely chocolate centers.

The children enjoyed a few of the still warm cookies for a quick snack. But, the girls decided that they just weren't fancy enough for tea with Grandma. So, they gave them a quick dip in melted chocolate chips, to give them a finishing touch.

The tea party was a big hit, cookies and all, with the girls, and their grandmother. And, I was proud of them for doing so much of the prep work on their own. But, they were generous enough to leave the cleanup for me, so I wouldn't feel left out.
