My youngest two (ages 4 and 5) asked if they could do a craft this afternoon. When I hesitated, they asked if they could do an owl craft. They knew they had me.
I didn't really have anything planned, so it was DLTK-Kids to the rescue. If you're the parent of a preschooler, and you do not have that site permanently bookmarked - do it now. I cannot begin to tell you the number of times DLTK's has bailed me out of a craft time dilemma.
I found an easy owl craft, and printed the template to go with it. Then, I gave the girls some strips of paper to snip up into small pieces.
I used pink, purple, and blue for more girly, and summery colors, thanks to a suggested from Christy of Superheroes and Princesses.
Once they had a good pile of paper clippings, I cut orange, triangle beaks, and gave them some yellow, tissue paper, squares to glue around the eyes.
Then, all they had to do was spread the glue, inside the outline, and cover their owls in paper "feathers"...
...placing the beaks on last.
The girls went down to nap, while the glue dried, and I promised to have their craft ready to hang, when they got up. So, while they were "sleeping", I flipped the owls over...
...cut them out...
...and glued them to blue construction paper, summer tree backgrounds, I had prepared, while they were cutting, and gluing their owls.
Thank you DLTK-Kids. You help make it...great to be a homeschooler!

Very cute and colourful owls :)
You guys are really into owls! They are very cute!
Those are so cute! I need to head over there more often, but I'm lazy.
DLTK is one of the first places I go when I need a quick and easy craft.
Thank you for the link. Now, I know that my daughter would love those owls! There are a few owl books we own that we love. Last year, we made paper bag owl puppets. This year, I will have to revisit owls and try this craft and make your felt owls and make the cupcakes. Can you tell that I love all of your owls? Just wondering, are you going to dissect owl pellets? I have never done it, but always thought it would be very interesting.
I love these. I am going to have to get Selena working with the scissors again, considering she tried to cut her hair while at my brothers.
Debbie - It sounds like Selena's right in pace with my little ones!
Christy - After the kids' fair, I called the one store in town, that would sell that sort of thing, and they were all out. We watched a Dirtiest Jobs clip about a guy collecting owl pellets, and I considered ordering some, but I'm not sure I could stomach the real thing :)
I love how they turned out. I also go to DLTK quite often - more often than needed for my craft-wary child. I liked how you put "sleeping" in the quotes :)
