Fall Leaf Tessellation
For a rainy day boredom buster sort of activity, I presented the children with fall leaf tessellation coloring sheets.
I wasn't able to find the kind of coloring sheet I was looking for, so I had to make my own, by copying a tessellating leaf from a piece of artwork by Jill Etheridge found here. I enlarged the image to 150%, and traced the leaf right off of my computer screen, then used it to make a cardboard template, that I could trace again and again over a sheet of paper, which I then photocopied to make multiple sheets for the children.
While the children colored, I read Betsy Maestro's Let's-Read-And-Find-Out Science book Why Do Leaves Change Color? And, we reviewed the causes of the fall color change.
When everyone was tired of coloring...
...we cut apart the leaves...
...and arranged them in a tessellating sort of puzzle, over the bare branches of a crayon sketched tree.

It's great to be a homeschooler.

Oh, I love the fall leaf tessellations. I think I like them even better before they were cut out. Wonderful!
This is so-so neat. Will you share your template, ple-ea-se?
Beautiful!
That is very cool! I love how you did that, I never thought of using leaves before.
