Chinese New Year Meets Valentine's Day - Tiger Heart Cutting Craft

Usually around this time of year, I print out a few of the heart, animal crafts from DLTK-Holidays, for the children to cut out, and put together. With the Chinese New Year falling on Valentine's Day this year, we decided to make our own, special, heart animal - combining the two holidays.

Using different sized heart shaped cookie cutters, we traced, and cut out:

  • 3 large orange, construction paper hearts
  • 2 small orange hearts
  • 2 even smaller, pink hearts
  • 1 very tiny black heart
  • 1 squiggly tail (we free handed that one)

We glued two of the large hearts together, points up, for the tiger's body.

We glued the third, large heart on top, point up, for the head.

We used the two small hearts, with the pink hearts glued on top, for the ears, and the tiny black heart, for the nose.

Finally, we added a couple of google eyes, and the tail.

I drew a mouth, and stripes in pencil, which the children traced over with black crayon.

So, Chinese New Year meets Valentine's Day, in small town Montana.

It's great to be a homeschooler.

What a simply "purr"-fect way to blend the two holidays!
