Button Cookies

We've had so much fun with our button spinners today, that I thought we'd keep the button theme going through snack time, with some button cookies.

I've seen these cookies around the blogosphere, and thought they looked fun. And, it turns out, they're quite easy to make.

I used my favorite sugar cookie dough, from Deborah Pearson's Alphabake Cookbook, but any sugar cookie recipe would do. I flavored half the dough with cocoa powder (1/4 cup added to the regular dough), and divided out some of the plain dough, to color pink, and blue.

Then, I rolled it out, as normal, and cut it into circles, with the rim of a flour dipped glass.

I moved them to the cookie sheet, and added a ridge to the buttons, with a smaller glass, and holes with a skewer (you'll have to excuse the hideous state of the cookie sheet pictured, but what can I say, it's well used!)

They baked for 12 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit, and came out...well, as cute as...a button.

It's great to be a homeschooler.

Those are so fabulously colorful! When I first saw this picture, I thought they were buttons made out of felted wool, not cookies!

I WISH I had done this when we read our Corduroy stories...

Goodness, I am amazed that you whip up those wonders in the kitchen practically every day. Those cookies do look amazing. I remember button spinning way back when - now I'll get to bring it back... when daughter is a little older :)

If that is a Doughmaker's cookie sheet, I have one too. I love it, but it gets as gunked up as your is! I don't care, Ic call it seasoning...but Hubby scrubs it away every now and again. And, I love the button cookies. Looks like something The Love could help me make!
