For a quick 10 minute lesson exploring natural pigments, try painting with pollen.
We've experimented with sunflower pollen mixed with hand soap in the past. This week, we discovered lily pollen (the powdery stuff on the anthers of the stamen)...
...mixed with vegetable oil...
...makes a pretty interesting...
...paint as well.
Painting on typing paper, with wax paper underneath...
...to protect the table...
...the paint appeared to be a mustard brown.
...just right for the first day of summer.

Oh,that is SO cool!! You think of the most cool and clever things to do!
I love this! We have made our own paints in the past, but I'd never thought of pollen - it makes such a smooth paint. And I just love the changes in the colour when put up at the window. Just lovely!
Thanks so much for popping by my blog.
This is very cool! Definitely trying this with the kids this summer!
I"d never thought to do this either, what a really cool idea. Now can I find flowers.....
