Fancy Nancy Hanprint Turkeys

I was all set today, with patriotic stickers - flags, and stars, and such, in case we were inspired by the selection of Veteran's Day books I have on hold at the library, to do some crafting, or coloring. Unfortunately, I forgot the library would be closed for the holiday, and neglected to pick the books yesterday, so they are all sitting neatly, on the on-hold pick-up shelf, in the locked library.

Instead, I pulled out Jane O'Connor's Fancy Nancy Our Thanksgiving Banquet, which I broke down, and bought for the beautiful sheet of Thanksgiving stickers inside.

The stickers are great. The story is typical Fancy Nancy, a little self-centered, with beautiful illustrations, lots of big words, a smattering of French, a tiny bit of a lesson (this time it's about the trade off between being elegant, and having fun), and even a craft lesson from Nancy herself, for fancying up handprint turkeys.

We traced wide around our hands, on folded sheets of construction paper...

...coloring in the outlines, and adding beaks, eyes, feathers, and glitter...

...a lot of glitter...

...but our turkeys still looked a little plain.

It turned out we needed those flag stickers after all.

I'd like to have the girls write Thanksgiving greetings inside for the grandparents.

Hopefully, they'll make a nice centerpiece for their Thanksgiving tables, too.

It's great to be a homeschooler.

I don't think it would be Thanksgiving for the K set without some handprint turkeys! Too bad about the books locked in the library!

What cute hand-print turkeys! Would you believe that my kids think they're "too old" for stuff like this? ((sigh)) LOL
