Cwafee Jello

I mis-clicked in a search screen the other day, and ended up accidentally bringing up a YouTube video how-to for making coffee jello.

I wasn't sure if I was intrigued, or repulsed by the idea, but I watched through the video - mainly because I got a big kick out the lady's way of saying "cwafee" for coffee.

By the time she was done, I knew I had to try some cwafee jello for myself.

The recipe is simple:

  • 1/2 cup cold coffee

  • 2 packets of unflavored gelatin

  • 1/2 cup of sugar (or Splenda)

  • 3 cups of hot coffee

  • whip cream to top

Dissolve the gelatin in the cold coffee, and allow to set for 10 minutes.

Stir in the hot coffee, and sugar.

Pour into a 9''x13'' baking dish, and place in the refrigerator for about 4 hours, until solid.

Cut into cubes, and serve topped with whipped cream.

It turns out, that not being a big fan of coffee with cream and sugar, I'm not a huge fan of this dessert, either. But, the jello texture, and the coffee flavor go together better than I expected. I think if you like cream and sugar in your cwafee, then this would be a nice, after dinner treat.

It's great to be a homeschooler.

I am laughing so hard right now because coffee jello (and coffee yogurt) is/are very, very popular around here. You can get coffee jello at every restaurant (especially diners) and coffee yogurt is sold in every grocery store. We live in MA, but close to the RI border. I would bet that the woman in the You Tube video is from RI.

Christy - Just when you think the world is getting smaller, you realize it's bigger, and more foreign than you think! Coffee yogurt - really? So, do you say cwafee, too?

I am with you Leah, I don't know that I would care much for coffee jello. I think it is funny she called it cwafee...wonder if that was how she always said coffee, or just for the desert?

I am a big coffee fan, so this sounds intriguing. But maybe before making any coffee jello, I should try regular jello once :)

No, I don't say "cwafee". I did my undergrad at Emerson College where articulation classes are required all four years. I have no trace of an accent. My parents don't say "cwafee" but they do say "gahbage" for garbage and "popcon" for popcorn. When they try to say "short", people think they are saying shot. Crazy.

Coffee yogurt is good, but I think of it as a dessert; I prefer my yogurt Greek, plain, and full of fresh fruit. Coffee milk is one of the most popular beverages here. It is just milk with coffee syrup - like chocolate milk, just coffee flavored. If you add ice cream and put it in the blender, that is called a "cabinet" here. Fun stuff.
