So, You Know Unschooling is Working When...

You know unschooling (or any type of homeschooling, for that matter) is working, when you order in a few Manga Classics (on a whim, after noticing them on Amazon while posting about the Manga Shakespeare series your reluctant reader enjoyed last year)...

...and then find a message on Facebook page from your 14 year old.

"So, we got a bunch of classics in manga form in the mail today, and I've already read the manga version of Great Expectations. They are fun to read and don't stray from the original stories, I'm very excited to read the rest of them."

I can't wait to show them what's up next!

CliffsNotes...

...and Netflix....

...and Quizlet...

...and maybe even - well, you know.

I despised Dickens when I was in high school, Great Expectations most of all, and even I'm excited to jump into this study.  It looks like this could be our year of Dickens...

...and Hawthorne, and Hugo, and Austen.

I love Great Expectations. I can't wait to share more Charles Dickens with my kids.

I like how you pool from several resources. These magna books sound awesome.

Great Expectations is the reason I don't read Dickens. It's the only book I threatened to burn from my high school required reading.

But, Miss Havisham is one of the main characters in the Thursday Next books, so that's cool.

I want all of these manga books now. Dickens is going to be fun in your house for sure :)

How exciting. I keep thinking, "will my fantasy loving 4th grader who reads on college level ever get into those classic books?". Perhaps there is hope!

I am so excited to learn that there are Manga's for the classics! I don't know if you are aware or not but www.thriftbooks.com has a lot to offer at much lower prices. I ordered 3 different Shakespeare Mangas for less than $12 with no shipping or tax. That's so much cheaper than Amazon!
