The First Robin of Spring - Connecting Learning to the World Around Us.

We had our first robin sighting of the year.

And, whether it's with a good book (like the one we're reading today)...

...or a craft or two (borrowed from the last few years)...

Cereal Box Robins

Robin Skip Counters
Fork Weaving Robins

...or even with a batch of cookies...

Gingerbread Robins
 ...or nest themed snack...

Bird Nest Snacktivity

...spotting the first robin of the season is not just a hopeful sign of spring (in our neck of the woods, anyway), but an easy bridge from the world around us - what's happening right now - back into a fully engaged classroom experience.

What's happening in your backyard today?

These are lovely activities Leah. I'm so pleased you are back? Are you all feeling much better?
I can't believe how very different your robin is to ours. Ours is brown rather than black and much smaller than yours. It's always interesting to leanr something new (I have never seen an American robin before - in fact I never knew one even existed!)

We love spring! Our backyard is a bird sanctuary in the spring thanks to our lovely neighbor who feeds them all the good seeds! We have a new family of blue birds that moved into our bird house, a red headed woodpecker, a family of robins and a pair of cardinals! We love it!

I have always loved Robins. We made paper mache Robins once.

Saw the first robin today too, such a welcome sight after all the snow we got a couple of weeks ago.
Awesome activities!

You make so many fun cookies!

We have a bird potentially nesting in the bird house my son built. I hope it convinces its mate to stay, because he has been hoping and hoping a bird would move in!

Love your robin activities. We have had our first summer heat wave this weekend - perfect for a St Patrick's Day bash thrown by our neighbors across the street. Everyone had a lot of fun!
