We're reading, or rather listening to an audio version of, Cressida Cowell's How to Train Your Dragon, in anticipation of the DreamWorks movie version, based loosely on the book, which is due out on DVD this weekend.To keep little hands busy while we listened, I printed off several coloring sheets, from here, a Viking mask printable, from here, and a Viking ship printable, from Crayola.
The boat comes with step-by-step instructions, and the mask is pretty straight forward.
We're currently out of card stock, so I printed the crafts out on regular paper. The children colored them...
...then glued them to thin cardboard sheets...
...before cutting them out.
I helped the younger ones with their cutting, and used a razor knife to cut out the eyes, for them. Then we punched holes in the sides, for strings...
...so they could tie them on, and practice making fierce viking faces.

Very cool! We loved the movie. Actually, my daughter found it to be very scary and I had to leave the movie theater with her about 30 minutes before the end, but I loved what I saw and my husband and boys really enjoyed the movie. I look forward to hearing your opinion and to seeing your dragon crafts. We made dragon claw snacks a while back and my kids still ask for them. ReplyDeleteI took my oldest son, just the two of us, to see this movie and it was SO good! We are anticipating buying it--it was really that good! Hope your family enjoys it just as much.
We made some dragon claws some time back--Nutter Butters dipped in green candy melts with cashew claws--adorable and tasted good too! Can't wait to see what you make--you are always so creative!
I have to remember this craft when we "visit" Norway - this mask looks very cool.
