Purple Birthday

We're having a purple birthday party in the house today (purple was the guest of honor's choice of theme). So, it's purple cake and ice cream, purple Kool-Aid scented playdough, pin the purple on the rainbow, a purple themed musical chairs/cake walk to the tune of "The Flying Purple People Eater", and so on.

I had hoped to have the kids make Jumping Jacks, after they colored them purple of course. I found a pattern and instructions at www.vam.ac.uk/moc/kids/things_to_make/jumping_jack/index.html. It's supposed to be a matter of print...

...color...

...cut, and add some string and paper fasteners...

...then pull the string to make the little man do jumping jacks.

It looks cute, but I haven't been able to get my prototype to work very well yet - and no one wants frustrated children at a birthday party. We might have to go with plan B, which is to read the newest Harold and The Purple Crayon book by Crockett Johnson, while the children play with the matching coloring sheets from the Harper Collins website. But, I included some purple pixie sticks in the pinata, so after the sugar rush, and playdough on the loose, we may be done in anyway!

It's great to be a homeschooler.
