Little Black Crows
If robins are the birds of spring, then I'd have to say crows are the birds of fall - early fall, around harvest time, anyway.
Crows, of course, are black, so the first thing we needed to do, when we decided to make a couple crows for our windowsill, was to paint the back of a cereal box black.
We really only needed enough black cardboard for two, or three small circles, but painting cardboard black is so much fun, we might have gotten carried away.
I'm sure we won't have any trouble at this time of year though, coming up with uses for the extra, black, cardboard.
We wanted small crows, so we used one of the children's cups for a template for our circle, about 2 and a half inches across.
E (age 6) helped to cut the circles out, and then joined her younger sister in sorting through the button box, in search of matching black buttons to use as eyes...
...while I cut black, construction paper triangles for beaks (crows don't actually have yellow beaks, despite the crafts you might have seen, including some on this blog), and strips to staple together, for tail feather.
We folded the circles in half, and the girls added glue on the inside, near the fold...
...for the beaks, and tails.
We pressed the circles down, by placing cans on top of them, until the glue was dry...
...then glued a black, button eye onto each side. And, because the crows didn't look quite complete, I cut quick, construction paper circles, slightly smaller than the cardboard circles, for the girls to cut in half...
...and glue on for wings.
It's great to be a homeschooler.
I am afraid I'd have a crow's beak if I disagreed with you on the color of crow's beaks, or perhaps I would be eating crow...but the yellow looks so nice and fallish, doen't it?
ReplyDeleteLove your cute little crows fall craft!
Crow-tastic!
ReplyDelete(Man, I am really slipping with my silly puns...)
What fun! Your little crows made me think of the very large crows we had in our yard all day.
ReplyDeleteNow that you mention it I realized they don't. But it just seems like they should.
ReplyDeleteNice craft. I was just reflecting today on my total inability to produce a credible crow drawing for Anna. Perhaps I should have looked at your blog first :)
ReplyDeleteNice craft!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful craft! I love the first photo of them on the window sill. We have tons of crows and stellar blue jays. I love them - learned to enjoy how beautiful they are! I think we'll be making these this afternoon, I'll let you know how it turned out.
