Back to Blogging Give Away

It's so great to come back from a week off with the children, and family camp, and find I still have followers. It makes me so happy, in fact, I feel like a give away.

I'm not a professional crafter, by any means, but I know several of you expressed an interest in purchasing a tiny, knit kitten, after I posted about making a few, this summer.

In fact, I briefly considered opening up an Etsy store, for that purpose. There's just no way I could keep up with something like that, at this point, though. If I get brave, and motivated, I think it would be great fun to talk to the manager of one of our local grocery stores, about letting the children sell a few, outside of the store, as a follow up to Beverly Cleary's Socks. The trick is getting brave, and motivated at the same time - so we'll see.

In the meantime, I would love to send a tiny kitten out to each of you, as a thank you for the kind comments, encouragement, and ideas I've received here. But, of course, that would mean I would have to give up homeschooling the children, and devote myself to nothing but knitting, and mailing out kittens, for the next year or two, which doesn't sound feasible, either.

But, I do have one little guy ready to go. And, I'm pretty sure, just one trip to the post office couldn't do too much damage to our schedule.

So, here's the deal, if you'd like the kitten pictured above, leave me a comment below, and tell me your favorite, fall activity for children. I figure as long as you're leaving a comment, it might as well be interesting. And besides, it's time to put up our fall, leaf list, and I could use the suggestions.

I'll pick one winner from the commenters on Friday. Be sure to leave me an email address for contacting you, if you win.

Oh, and just as an FYI, the kitten is made from acrylic yarn, is about three inches long, and is intended as a toy, to be played with, but can be pulled apart, and turned into a choking hazard, and so is not recommended for children under three.

***I guess I should have said - yes, I will ship overseas :) ***

It's great to be a homeschooler.

  2. Our family loves to go apple picking in the fall.

Our family would love to win and adopt your beautiful little yarn kitten! We will play with her while drinking our first Pumpkin Spice Latte of the season.

    Thanks! Jill

  3. M would love that little kitty!

Leaf jumping is a blast for the kids. I like autumn walks. Though I don't love making it, I love eating homemade applesauce...it's just a long, tiring day to can so many quarts!

  4. My 8 yr old would LOVE that kitty because she loves all things handmade.

Our favorite fall activity is that we each paint a pumpkin. Each person gets a pumpkin, we lay out an old sheet in the driveaway and everyone creates their own masterpiece on their pumpkin. Then we display them on the porch from Sept to Halloween. Best of all, they don't rot or start looking bad before Halloween.

  5. You know our favorite thing is still making a leaf pile. We took a picture of us all in the leaves a few years back and the boys still ask "Mom, can we do that AGAIN, and take a picture again this time?" Of course, we can. :) Seems like such a simple thing, but we can't miss it because it signals the beginning of Fall. :) We would love to adopt your cute kitty and take him on adventures with us!

  6. I am certain we could give a good home to that cute kitty!! It's hard to pick a favorite fall activity, but I think it would have to be apple picking and then making applesauce, pies, apple crisp...I can't wait! :)

  7. Life is changing for us since we've moved, Selena is discovering all sorts of new ideas for fall. We always gather leaves, though for some reason I think this year we will watch the changes that take place in the plant life around us.

She would love to add this little kitten to her collection of stuffies.

  8. Our favorite fall activity is a visit to our local pumpkin patch. We go on a hayride, play in the maze of hay bales, visit the petting zoo, ride the kiddie train, and of course, tromp around the fields looking for the *perfect* pumpkin. Great thing to do on a crisp but sunny fall day.

  9. Oh, they are adorable, and I can't knit to save my life! Soo.. if you're willing to ship overseas.. ;) Our favorite fall activity is to take a hike in the local Arboretum where we can see the way's trees look all around the world when the seasons change. We also stop off to see the Black Swans & Platypus in the pond, and check the hazelnut tree my children helped plant last year. :D

  10. What a cute kitty. We would love to have him join us.

We always look forward to going to the pumpkin patch to pick out pumpkins. We also go outside and create "yard art". We take out basic craft supplies with us like scissors, glue, wire, paint and glitter, then we have to gather things from around the yard and make something out of them. Last year, we found some magnolia pods from our neighbors tree. We coated them with gold glitter and then placed them on a grapevine wreath. We ended up hanging it on the front door it came out so pretty. This year, I think we will make another one for the neighbor!

  11. That cat is so cute, my daughter instantly fell in love with it. Being in Cairo, Egypt, our fall is a little different than that in the US. There are no leaves falling or cooling rains. But....the temperature does start to slowly go down and we can't wait for the days that are cool enough (under 90F) to go on outdoor outings such as the pyramids.

My favourtie Autumn thing to do is go on a leaf hunt and then put them all together, sewing them, and then hanging from the ceiling (or the like) We also LOVE to make a HUGE pile of leaves and make a BED with them , then all lying down in them! I love doing that with the children!
THanks again for the opportunity to win your cutie Kitty!
    Happy schooling

  14. Leaves don't really fall here in the fall, so we don't really do any crafts like that...... But, if they did we made a "Leaf man" out of felt leaves....

  15. In Michigan: We do our community's color tour every October. There are spots along the route--like taking rides up the ski lift to see the low, rolling hills, and a scarecrow contest at a park. It takes all afternoon.

I would be happy for instructions on "how" to make that kitty. My daughter and I just learned the knit stitch last winter and are bored of making scarves...

  16. I've missed your fun projects and things! :)

One of my favorite fall art projects is creating leaves by dipping marbles in paint and then rolling them around on paper cut out in leaf shapes. (You can cut them out before or after. After is always fun.)

  17. What a great amigurumi. I have started my Mom on a journey to knit toys for her grandkids and great grandkids. I have been crocheting ami's for a while now.

    Best wishes on your giveaway.

  18. This kitten is just adorable! Thanks for reminding me about the book "Socks" because I know my daughter will love it. Our favorite fall activity is going to the pumpkin patch! We can see at a glance the life cycle of a pumpkin and pick out our favorites for carving jack-o-lanterns. We also enjoy making spice tea, and this year my daughter is working on a banner that she is sewing and we are going to hang it on the mantle in our living room. We purchased this craft as part of a kit from the Heats and Trees blog. I love fall!

  20. Hope your kids love "Socks" as much as mine do! We would love to win that sweet little kitty!

We love going apple picking and jumping in the leaves in the fall. So excited...we get to go on a family vacation "home" this fall...where we can do our favorite fall activities in the cook fall weather...unlike here in Cali where we go to the pumpkin patch in shorts!

  24. You should *totally* open an etsy shop and sell them!

My fave fall activity (but it is not the husband's!) is hauling out all the fall/halloween/thanksgiving decorations from the attic. I aim for Oct 1 - and that seems to kick off the halloween-thanksgiving- 2 birthdays- Christmas-4 birthdays-valentines Day Season!

The kids however like to make and put up their banners- they have made one for each holiday- and the two oldest fight over who gets to change out the switchplate and socket covers (we change the homemade decorative ones seasonally).
