Toilet Paper Tube Gragger - Purim Craft

We put off our "first day of spring" craft, in order to slip in a quick Purim craft, this afternoon, instead.

We're not Jewish, but Purim is fun excuse to review the story of Esther, and have a little fun at the same time. Click here, to go to Chabad.com's Purim page, if you have no idea what Purim is, or how it relates to the book of Esther.

This year we made really simple graggers, or noise makers, for the children to use to drown out the name of Haman, the villain of the story, as we watched Veggie Tale's Esther, instant streaming on Netflix.

I started by stapling one end of an empty toilet paper tube closed, and punching a couple of holes, across from each other, in from the other end.

The children filled their graggers with dried beans, and a few bells.

Then, I stapled the open end closed...

...and covered the staples with tape.

All that was left, was for the children to decorate them...

...and slip them onto a pencil...

...ready to shake, and spin, and generally be rowdy, at the mention of the name of Haman.

It's great to be a homeschooler.

  1. You know, I was thinking about Purim this year, too. Didn't do anything about it, but I thought about it.

  2. I like those noisemakers. I'll have to keep those in mind for New Year's Eve.

  4. Great gragger. Somehow we missed Purim this year - too many other things going on. Maybe next year we'll celebrate too.
