Jello Lick-and-Stick Nativity Stickers

I'm really enjoying our slower rhythm, this week, of reading one short passage of the Christmas story, and doing one craft to go with it. It's proving to be a very nice wind down to Christmas Day.

Since the girls already had their finger puppets ready for this morning's reading, I decided to try something different, and made them a Nativity sticker set.

I'm sure you've seen the idea of using flavored gelatin to make stickers before, I know I have, but we hadn't gotten around to trying it.

So, this morning I Googled "Nativity stickers", found an image I liked, and printed it onto plain paper.

Then, I brushed the back of the sheet with a mixture of 1 tablespoon Jello, dissolved in 2 tablespoons of boiling water, using a pastry brush.

When the Jello dried, I cut the pictures out, and gave them to the girls, to lick-and-stick, the scene.

We usually buy peal-and-stick stickers, so it was a new experience for the girls. They were quite taken with the raspberry flavor. I had to keep reminding them, that it was a craft, and not a snack.

They had so much fun with it, that I think I'll make another set, with a clear Jello flavor, like white grape, to take along as busy work, to keep them occupied during the Christmas Eve service. They didn't get the red on anything, but I wouldn't put it past them to manage it at church.

It's great to be a homeschooler.

I'm impressed that they did not get the red on anything! I'm not so sure that I will be so lucky.

  4. I hadn't heard of this before. Oh how delicious those stickers would be, knowing Selena though she would try to eat the entire sticker.

  5. We made thse this past summer, but we just used unflavored clear gelatin, corn syrup and flavorings, but using the already flavored jello sounds like a good idea. You can make the stickers for any time using wrapping paper.

  7. Are the back sticky when they're dry?

I don't know how they didn't manage to get the red on anything.

  8. Ticia - No, when they are dry, they are glossy, and smooth, and not sticky at all.

I thought when I painted the red on, it would bleed through the paper, but it didn't do that either.

It's a much less messy project than it sounds.
