Love Bears All Things - Toilet Paper Tube Craft

For Bible Alive! Tuesday,a new link-up hosted by The Fantastic Five, I started the kids out with a Veggie Tale lesson on homophones, with "School House Polka". It is a silly song with Larry from Sumo of the Opera, that you can find on YouTube by clicking the link.

Anyway, after we watched the song a few times, and discussed what homophones are, we looked up the word "bear" in the dictionary, because it has a number of different meanings (you know...as a noun - a mammal, as a verb - to hold up, to carry, to give birth, to tolerate, etc), and because we kind of have a bear theme going on, this week.

After we read through all the different meanings for the word, we read I Corinthians 13:4-8a in the New American Standard Version...

4 Love is patient, love is kind, and is not jealous; love does not brag, and is not arrogant,
5 does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered,
6 does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices in truth;
7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
8a Love never fails.

Focusing in on the beginning of verse 7, "(love) bears all things", we talked about which meaning of "bear" fits the verse. With high school age children, this would be a good chance to pull out a commentary, to double check their choice. But, since I was working with younger children, we simply settled on "to tolerate".

Love tolerates all things...like when you don't smack your brother for forgetting his manners, and chewing with his mouth open, because you love him. Love helps us to overlook, or tolerate other peoples imperfections. We may not like everything they do, but we don't stop loving them.

To help bear that in mind, we made a toilet paper tube, craft, with a printout from learningenglish-esl, and attached a heart to it, with the words, "Love Bears All Things."

Our bear is bearing the message about love bearing all things.

It's great to be a homeschooler.
