Flower Pounding Place Cards

My folks are here for a visit this week, and the girls are in full swing, planning for a Grandmother's Tea. The first project on the list to be conquered was making the place cards. The girls opted for a simple flower pounding method, to transfer a small flower print onto their cards.

The cards themselves were just tea dyed card stock, cut into 2in x 3in rectangles.

After a little trial and error, we discovered that violas worked the best for this project, since we were able to pound them all at once, before they had a chance to slide around, and ruin the print.

The girls placed the violas face down on the cards, one card at a time, and sat them onto a cutting board, on top of a couple of pot holders, to protect the surface of the stool they were on. Then they placed a piece of plastic wrap over the flower, and pounded it onto the card with a rubber mallet.

The crushed flowers were peeled away, leaving a print behind.

Finally, the girls added the names of the guests. As you might imagine, the boys names were not included. They have a previous history of behaving like bad mannered trolls at tea parties, and so will have to find entertainment elsewhere.
