They are worried enough about natural disasters without them learning more about someone who's going through it.Ticiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17970101432834731044noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-598841562237715955.post-85598812941025735882011-03-23T14:50:52.696-07:002011-03-23T14:50:52.696-07:00These sound like really great books! These sound like really great books!Phyllishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09217282962233011656noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-598841562237715955.post-61738389186885906302011-03-23T09:42:35.779-07:002011-03-23T09:42:35.779-07:00Thanks for the recommendations! I admire Japanese people' response to the disaster - so much dignity and fortitude. I can only imagine what would have happened here in US - New Orleans gave a good preview.Natalie PlanetSmartyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03531558038661679151noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-598841562237715955.post-9428341326460761042011-03-23T08:15:02.814-07:002011-03-23T08:15:02.814-07:00Thank you so much. K did ask if people got hurt after I told her there was an earthquake but she must have picked up my reticence as she did not pursue further. I'll look into the books for future reference.

We read the Magic School Bus book on the moon that you recommended. We enjoyed it because it wasn't as dense as some of the other books. But I made the mistake of letting her watch the Maguc School Bus video on the solar system. Not only is it not up to date but when one of the cousins decided to take his space helmet off to prove a point and his head froze....well, that freaked K out! So, just a warning! I was a bit taken back as well as it was unexpected.Joyful Learnerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06428785096597190176noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-598841562237715955.post-24111151071992641652011-03-23T07:39:35.967-07:002011-03-23T07:39:35.967-07:00I will have to see if our library has any of these...I will have to see if our library has any of these books. While Selena has watched coverage of the disaster in Japan, she seems so matter of fact about it all. Maybe because she just related it to the earthquake we felt here, so all she said was that their houses shook. She was a little taken by the wave of water, but more of a confusion. She hasn't talked or even asked about any of it though. I just don't get the feeling it really has bothered her.Debbiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00132185749852282347noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-598841562237715955.post-75728535573287520152011-03-23T07:19:32.902-07:002011-03-23T07:19:32.902-07:00Thank you for the recommendations. My children saw a lot of the coverage too, and it is definitely a good idea to help them process it. I really appreciate the book recommendations!Christy Killoranhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07159841014641280973noreply@blogger.com
